WFP seeks a communications professional to tell our story. As National Press Secretary, you will play a key role in developing and driving earned media strategies that amplify the Working Families Party's mission and vision. The National Press Secretary will work with the National Communications Director to develop and execute sophisticated media strategies that support our candidates, issues, and organization.
Applicants should have at least five years of experience with media relations and strategy, message development, and crisis management. This position demands a keen understanding of the political landscape, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to think critically and adapt swiftly to evolving media dynamics. Applicants should be exceptional writers, have a proactive, can-do attitude, and strong organizational skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute earned media strategies to promote the organization's mission and goals.
  • Assist the Communications Director in crisis management.
  • Help communications and research staff develop narrative and messaging materials.
  • Write and distribute press releases, op-eds, and other written materials.
  • Pitch stories to journalists and build relationships with media outlets.
  • Arrange and conduct press conferences, interviews, and other media events.
  • Monitor news coverage and respond to media inquiries.
  • Act as spokesperson for the organization, and prep senior WFP members, leaders and staff for interviews.
  • Track and analyze public opinion and develop strategies to influence it.
  • Provide media training to organization staff and spokespeople.
  • Collaborate with other teams within the WFP to develop and implement integrated communications campaigns.
  • Stay up-to-date on current events and political trends.

What Else Should You Know

  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $120,000. The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that considers years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. We also offer a robust benefit package for full-time employees including paid time off; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; flexible spending accounts; retirement plan options; professional development funding; and remote work support.

  • Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a nonmanagerial role eligible to join WFP's staff bargaining unit after six months of employment. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
