About the Working Families Party
The Working Families Party (WFP) is the progressive party for the multiracial working class, fighting for a nation that works for the many, not the few. We recruit, train, and support transformational candidates up and down the ballot — and run them to win.
We believe that no matter where we come from or what our color, most of us want the same things. We want to earn enough to thrive, not just survive, and leave a better future for our kids. We want healthy food and clean water, safe neighborhoods and a safe world. We want to be free.
The Working Families Party is regular people coming together across our differences to make a better future for us all. We’re a multiracial party that fights for workers over bosses and people over the powerful. We want an America which realizes the promise – unrealized in our history – of freedom and equality for all.
We are seeking to add a new member to the Equity, People, Inclusion and Culture (EPIC) Department at the Working Families Party, who will be responsible for the management and evaluation of our benefits programs and the management of staff relations matters. The person in this role will support WFP staff and the clients of our partner organization Community Labor Administrative Services, Inc. (CLASI). We are seeking an experienced human resources professional who knows how to use an equity lens, support conflict resolution and manage benefits. The ideal candidate has experience working with a unionized workforce.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Benefits Administration:
  • Manage current comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, employee assistance programs, and wellness initiatives.
  • Review current benefits offerings and make program recommendations to ensure benefits offerings promote equity, are inclusive, and meet the diverse needs of our workforce, considering factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, disability, and other protected characteristics.
  • Manage portfolio of relationships with vendors and support EPIC Director and Chief of Staff in negotiating benefit contracts and renewals.
  • Ensure current and future benefits programs comply with collective bargaining agreement and make recommendations and implement plan changes as needed.
  • Evaluate current staff benefits usage and set benchmarks to increase staff understanding and adoption of current and future benefits programs, including through training and outreach.
  • Establish and maintain contact with injured employees and provide assistance with claims and obtaining health care.

  • Staff and Labor Relations:
  • Use proven restorative justice practices to help resolve conflict and foster open communication, understanding, and resolution in a fair and impartial manner.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on issues related to performance management, disciplinary actions, and policy interpretation while ensuring adherence to CLASI policies and legal requirements.
  • Work closely with the rest of the EPIC team and legal counsel to address complex employee relations matters and minimize organizational risk.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for CLASI’s extended family of client organizations and hosted projects. Collect and review all relevant policies and manuals and ensure compliance to CLASI policy and the law.
  • As needed collaborate with union representatives to address employee concerns, grievances, and contract interpretation issues.
  • Ensuring Equity:
  • Support the rest of the EPIC team in developing and implementing strategies that foster a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Support regular equity audits and the EPIC Equity Dashboard. Recommend improvements to eliminate bias and discrimination in policies and practices, particularly those related to hiring, retention, attrition, engagement, and performance management.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional experience, at least 3 in a People & Culture or Human Resources role.
  • Strong understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion concepts and their application in the workplace.
