Foundation Manager

OpenSecrets is seeking a talented and experienced Foundation Manager to join our team. The Foundation Manager will play a pivotal role in securing the necessary funding to support our mission-driven work. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing foundation funding, grant management, cultivating relationships with institutional funders, and contributing to the growth and sustainability of our organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the overall institutional giving program by preparing and writing grant proposals, solicitations, letters of intent, and reports in accordance with funder guidelines.
  • Review and enhance proposals and reports through critiquing, editing, proofreading, and formatting for review by leadership and relevant program staff.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of institutional prospects, with a focus on identifying OpenSecrets programs and initiatives that align with funders' interests.
  • Effectively cultivate, solicit, and steward funders, ensuring the execution of deliverables.
  • Collaborate closely with internal program staff and researchers to gather information from multiple initiatives for grant applications, proposals, and reports.
  • Generate monthly budget variance reports and maintain updated revenue/pipeline tracking to meet revenue goals.
  • Implement recognition benefits across the organization and ensure fulfillment with funders.
  • Maintain detailed records of funder interactions and prospect activities in records, files, and EveryAction database.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's mission and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a nonprofit setting, in the area of grants management, grant-writing, foundation relations, and fundraising.
  • Proficient in GoogleDrive, GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in budget tracking and financial reporting.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with EveryAction donor management software.
  • Established relationships with funders in the field (preferred).
  • Familiarity with issues related to money in politics is a plus.

Lead Developer

General Job Description: Takes the lead—working closely with our Web Content Manager and Information Technology Director—in architecting, managing, documenting, developing, testing, and debugging various Ruby and Vue applications. Writes software that helps process and present data across a multitude of data sources and projects.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the architecture of our Ruby on Rails / Vue web applications;
  • Develops and documents new features and functionality across a range of web applications;
  • Writes tests to ensure proper functionality of our apps;
  • Responsible for upgrading web application to newer versions Ruby and Ruby on Rails and Vue;
  • Coordinates with content providers to migrate content from our PhP site to our Ruby on Rails based platform;
  • Builds interfaces and software that work with large datasets in SQL and No-SQL.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise with the Ruby on Rails web framework
  • Expertise with the Vue front-end framework
  • Expertise with web technologies, such as Javascript, JQuery, HTML and CSS
  • Experience with APIs and REST applications
  • Experience with multiple programming languages: PHP, Python, Ruby, Javascript (including Node.js)
  • Experience with Git and version control
  • Desire to solve complex problems employing datastores such as MSSQL, MongoDB and MySQL, MSSQL
  • Enthusiastic about big data and the political process
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, agile work environment with frequent changes
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Researcher

OpenSecrets is seeking a new member of our Research team. This Researcher will be responsible for helping to collect, curate, and add value to all types of money in politics data, from the local to presidential level. As a researcher they will help OpenSecrets process and add value to millions of records with a particular focus on our unique database of state and local campaign donations.

This Researcher will work closely with other staff at OpenSecrets, including current Research & Technical staff. They will identify candidates running for state office, track ballot initiatives across the country, and document election results nationwide.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with and analyzing large datasets, equivalent to 2-3 years in a similar position, or equivalent coursework completed through higher education.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are paramount to this position – this Researcher should be comfortable monitoring and documenting thousands of unique political entities nationwide.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and projects both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Good computer skills – experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL, or similar database programming languages is highly desirable, but more important is a willingness to learn new technological skills and the ability to do so quickly.
  • A commitment to OpenSecrets’ nonpartisan mission.
  • Knowledge of and interest in American government and money in politics.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary range is $45,000-$47,000 annually.
  • We are a fully remote organization and this person can be based anywhere in the U.S.
  • OpenSecrets offers an excellent benefits package, including full medical, dental, 403(b) match, generous vacation and sick leave, and all federal holidays paid.
