IRAP’s Pro Bono department is hiring a Pro Bono Manager to help respond to the needs of displaced people by developing and implementing high impact projects and leveraging IRAP’s partner networks. The Pro Bono Manager will work closely with the Director of Pro Bono to advise on departmental strategy, management, and mission and will supervise the Pro Bono Coordinator. This position will oversee all of IRAP's student work in the U.S. and Canada, including our work with 26 law school chapters and our new fellowship for law students with lived experience of marginalization or displacement. The role will also be responsible for designing and supervising complex projects that leverage both our student and pro bono attorney networks and, on occasion, involve collaboration with external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Pro Bono Coordinator.
  • Oversee IRAP’s law student chapter management, including working with the Pro Bono Coordinator to develop, place, and execute projects, casework, and other opportunities that meaningfully engage students.
  • Manage the law student fellowship recruitment and programming.
  • Engage in creative visioning around the future of student work at IRAP in collaboration with the Pro Bono Coordinator.
  • Work with the Director of Pro Bono to ensure oversight and accountability of pro bono attorney work and to make strategic decisions on new pro bono attorney programming.
  • Design, plan, and implement new projects and programming that leverage IRAP’s pro bono network to address unmet legal needs, including liaising with external contacts, developing materials, and potentially engaging in legal work under the supervision of the Director of Pro Bono.
  • Build and manage relationships with partner organizations that work with IRAP’s pro bono network.
  • Work with the Director of Pro Bono to organize and execute pro bono network cultivation events.
  • Represent the Pro Bono department on IRAP cross-departmental committees and liaise with other departments to support the development of new projects.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • J.D. or DOJ accreditation preferred.
  • Advanced degree in a related field is also a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with students and/or legal volunteers.
  • Experience designing and executing legal projects, including but not limited to designing and participating in legal clinics and other pro bono projects.
  • Experience working with displaced or marginalized communities strongly preferred.
  • Experience supervising strongly preferred.

  • Commitment to training, mobilizing, and working with pro bono attorneys and law students with a DEIA lens.

  • Ability to be a team player while also being able to work independently, take initiative, and identify potential problems and propose solutions.
  • Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations.
  • Familiarity with technology systems, including Microsoft, Adobe, and Google Suite. Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written English proficiency is required. Excellent skills in other languages are a plus, but not required.
Location: The candidate will work in one of IRAP’s U.S.-based offices (New York City or Washington D.C.) but remote work candidates in the U.S. will be considered. If based in DC or remote, the position would require semi-frequent travel to New York. This position also requires semi-frequent travel to visit law school chapters in the U.S. and Canada, attend conferences, visit project sites, and potentially other IRAP offices.
Compensation
This role is paid on a step scale based on years of work experience and education. The salary will be between $98,492 - $124,766.
