Opportunity
The Pro Bono Coordinator will sit in IRAP’s Pro Bono department, a four-person team that
responds to the needs of displaced people by developing and implementing high impact
projects and leveraging IRAP’s partner networks, including law firms and law student
chapters. The Pro Bono Coordinator will provide legal, organizational, and project
management support to a variety of the team’s initiatives, including case placement with
law firm attorneys, coordination and relationship management with student chapters, and
project planning and implementation.
The Pro Bono Coordinator will report to the Pro Bono & Projects Manager and will work
closely and collaboratively with the Director of Pro Bono and Pro Bono Staff Attorney. This
position requires excellent relationship management and organizational skills, as the role
will be split between coordination and administrative tasks. This is an exciting opportunity
for an individual interested in refugee rights to be part of a growing, international legal aid
and advocacy organization.
Responsibilities
- Project Management
- Support the development and implementation of new projects for IRAP’s student network such as limited representation cases, advocacy efforts tailored to local community needs, research projects, and other one-off learning opportunities;
- Assist with department in-house casework, including supporting an ongoing project to assist Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants in Afghanistan;
- Coordinate new projects and clinics, including liaising with other departments and logistical support to clients as needed.
- Relationship Management
- With the Pro Bono & Projects Manager, serve as point of contact for IRAP’s 26 law school chapters. Build relationships with chapter leaders and law school administrators and support chapters with student engagement;
- Lead planning and coordination for student events, including the annual Student Summit and Advocacy Week.
- Administrative Support
- Assist with the preparation of new cases for placement with law firm attorneys, including by drafting case summaries and notes, communicating with law firm contacts, and creating and organizing case files;
- Create, update, and manage trainings and resources for IRAP’s pro bono network, collaborating with staff across IRAP as required;
- Provide administrative and logistical support for casework quality assurance mechanisms and case file management;
- Support Director of Pro Bono with development and operations-related tasks; ● Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree plus 1-2 years of relevant work experience or 4-6 years of relevant work experience; experience working in legal settings or mobilizing students a plus;
- Interest in and commitment to IRAP’s mission;
- Demonstrated experience with relationship management;
- Commitment to training, mobilizing, and working with pro bono attorneys and law students;
- Strong organizational skills, project management skills, and attention to detail;
- Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse workload with flexibility and strong time management skills, including excellent judgment regarding when to seek supervisor input paired with the ability to work independently when appropriate;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills;
- Motivation to provide administrative and logistical support in a dynamic work environment;
- Sensitivity to client empowerment and to working with clients of all backgrounds, including LGBTI clients, survivors of trauma, and other vulnerable populations;
- Familiarity with technology systems, including Microsoft, Adobe, and Google Suite. Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus;
- Fluency in spoken and written English;
- Additional languages (particularly Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Pashto, Somali, and/or Spanish) are a plus.
Location: The ideal candidate will work in IRAP’s New York City office but remote work candidates will be considered. This position will require periodic travel in North America.
Compensation
The annual full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $61,904 - $80,474 commensurate with experience and office location. May be subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
