About FPL/FPLA:
Faith in Public Life (FPL) and Faith in Public Life Action (FPLAF), our sister organization, advance the moral imperative for a just, inclusive, and equitable country that allows each of us to live into our full humanity and advocate for policies that protect and advance our sacred human rights. Our coalition of influential faith leaders – who reflect the diversity of the nation – collectively discern, set faith-forward strategy, and take transformative action. By building cultures of belonging, leveraging the collective power of our multi-faith and multi-racial coalition, and advocating for policies that protect the full humanity of each of us, our strategy hub leads us closer to realizing a healthy and equitable democracy.
Position Description:
Faith in Public Life is seeking an intern in the summer of 2024 to assist with a mapping project and national coalition programming. Supervision will include weekly check-ins on tasks, roadblocks, and learnings. The position is remote, with the requirement of working in the D.C. office to align with their supervisor. The intern will also be invited to select staff-wide professional development offerings and to select organizing and/or communications team trainings (attendance optional, depending on interest/availability).
Job Responsibilities:
- Faith Leaders/Influencers Mapping Project:
- Organize the tracking of data about 700+ faith leaders/influencers collected by the project researcher
- Schedule follow-up interviews for qualitative vetting for mapping purposes
- National Coalition Programming:
- Conduct strategic research to support programmatic planning
- Support the coordination of logistical execution of programming
Other duties will be assigned as these projects evolve and additional needs are identified.
Job Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have many, though not necessarily all, of the following skills and experiences:
- Ability to sift through data and ascertain what is relevant, with great attention to detail
- Ability to successfully work independently (with support and guidance)
- Track record of meeting deadlines
- Ability to keep large amounts of data clean and organized
- Ability to communicate effectively and easily with a diverse spectrum of faith leaders
Approach to the Job:
- Equity at the center: You recognize ways that race and other identities intersect in the work, especially with communities we serve. You identify potential for bias and actively work to minimize inequities in decisions, policies, and processes.
- High volume, high efficiency: We’re pretty busy here, and your job is to make it easy for our team members to do their jobs. You maintain systems for keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks, while also coaching your team to do the same. You’re able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality. You get back to people in a timely manner and take pride in providing clear, helpful information.
- Ownership and resilience: You care deeply about getting results. You gather information, seek input, and drive work forward to the finish line. You think 3 (or 30) steps ahead to develop solutions, anticipate problems, and course-correct when needed. You hold a high bar even when things are hectic and bounce back from setbacks by turning each hurdle into a learning opportunity.
Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a generous and comprehensive benefits package including full medical, dental, and vision premium coverage, life insurance, and an FSA/DCA savings plan.
Faith in Public Life provides a 401k benefit that offers a dollar-for-dollar match of up to 3% of an employee's contribution. In addition to that, Faith in Public Life offers stipends for mobile phone/internet use and professional development.
We provide 4 weeks of vacation paid time off, 10 paid sick days, 13 paid Federal holidays, paid religious holidays, paid parental leave, and additional paid leave including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
Equal Opportunity Statement:
Faith in Public Life provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
