Democracy Works is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that collaborates with election officials, leading tech platforms, and world-class partners to drive voter access and participation. We help Americans vote by providing reliable, useful voting guidance through the sites, apps and groups they trust. This includes TurboVote, the Voting Information Project, and Ballot Scout. In partnership with the Creative Arts Agency, we co-founded the Civic Alliance, a nonpartisan coalition of businesses united in building a future where everyone can vote, volunteer, and take action to shape our country

The Civic Alliance is a network of 1,300+ businesses united in their commitment to democracy, employing more than 5.8 million people in the U.S. and reaching virtually every American consumer. The Civic Alliance equips members with nonpartisan resources to empower civic participation in the workplace and beyond.
Founded in 2020 by Democracy Works and the CAA Foundation, the Civic Alliance supports member companies ranging from Fortune 500 companies to Main Street businesses. As a Civic Alliance Fellow, you will manage daily operations for the organization's scope of work for the 2024 election, as well as contribute strategic input. You will report to the Director of Corporate Engagement.
The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter with a devotion for creating impact across the public and private sectors. The successful candidate will have an interest in corporate social responsibility more broadly.
As Civic Alliance Fellow, you will be a key support to leadership. You will assist in developing and executing our strategy for impact, collaborating closely with our most engaged member companies, our co-founding partner the CAA Foundation, and colleagues across Democracy Works.
You will:
- Communications & Content Creation
- Research and draft written content for resources and toolkits.
- Draft / develop web, newsletter, and social media content.
- Assist in developing and executing strategies to inspire, support, and communicate about corporate civic engagemen.
- Membership Engagement & Growth
- Support new member onboarding and ongoing member support by engaging and supporting members in their civic journey.
- Updating website and member forms and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms.
- Develop metrics and methods for tracking data to illustrate the impact of Civic Alliance and define success for member companies.
- Project Support & Reporting
- Work closely with the team to plan and track program deliverables, using project management tools like Asana and CRM platforms.
- Support director during meetings and conduct follow-up and tracking of key actions.
- Assist with the planning and execution of events to inspire, educate, and connect member companies.
- Website Management
- Use content management system to keep program websites up to date with our latest members, partners, and resources.
You are:
- An organized, detail-oriented creative thinker, problem solver, and collaborator.
- An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, and capable of engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- A strong project manager with the ability to prioritize a variety of workstreams.
- Knowledgeable about the trends, opportunities, and threats in civic engagement and corporate social responsibility.
- Passionate about civic engagement and democracy issues as well as the impactful, nonpartisan role that the private sector can play in bolstering civic participation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in corporate relationship management, corporate social responsibility, or civic engagement.
- Full-time work experience in one or more of the following sectors: nonprofit, government, tech, CSR, or civic engagement.
- Proven experience engaging corporate partners in the social impact space or working in corporate social responsibility.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (we use Hubspot and Salesforce).
How we work
Because elections take place everywhere, our employees work from all across the country. We embrace working remotely as the default. Our positions require regular, daily use of a computer, including the use of G-Suite and Slack, to conduct work and communicate with colleagues. We also have regular operating hours (10:00 A.M. EST to 6:00 P.M. EST Eastern, Monday to Friday).
For those who prefer to work from an office, we are headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. We are happy to share more details about the office, including accessibility information, as on-site visits are planned.
For New York City candidates, we prefer a hybrid structure with 2-3 days per week working from the Brooklyn office.
