We are looking for a creative and collaborative Organizer to join the Common Cause team in Florida. This is a key role supporting our organizing and outreach programs and promoting civic engagement across the state. This is a full-time, temporary role reporting to the State Director, Florida and based in Florida, with an expectation to travel around Florida and/or work in our state office at least 2 days per week. This is a 6-month role, ideally starting on June 1, 2026 and ending on November 30, 2026.

Responsibilities

    Grow, diversify, and engage supporters

    • Support activities to grow, diversify, and engage our base of supporters

    • Participate in engaging, nonpartisan education and outreach activities to expand awareness of our work

    • Assist with events, campaigns, and projects, such as voter education, election protection, direct democracy, money in politics, and actions related to bills introduced during legislative session

    • Collaborate with other staff to promote activities through social media and other communication channels

    • Assist in developing compelling communication materials for outreach efforts, including emails (CauseNets), social media posts/graphics, website content, presentations, and other materials as needed

    • Manage discrete projects within the election protection program

    • Act as a representative of Common Cause at community events and coalition meetings

    • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and members

    Support our research and advocacy efforts

    • Assist with research and advocacy efforts on democracy issues, such as voting/elections, fair representation, money in politics, ethics, accountability, disinformation and direct democracy

    • Assist in tracking legislative developments relevant to our work

    • Collaborate with volunteers and interns to support our work

    Support fundraising and advisory board management

    • Support the State Director and other staff in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant support, and reporting for foundations and major donors

    • Assist with administrative tasks for the state advisory board, including meeting coordination, logistics, and preparation of materials

    Administrative and other duties

    • Complete administrative tasks as needed

    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

    • Ability to build relationships and credibility with multiple stakeholders with diverse interests, and a track record of working collaboratively with others

    • Interest in public advocacy campaigns and mobilization efforts

    • Interest in democracy issues, including voting rights, redistricting, campaign finance reform, disinformation, ethics, etc., with a demonstrated interest in the unique aspects of Florida’s political dynamic

    • Ability to meet deadlines for multiple projects at once, with attention to detail, and a resourceful approach to solving problems

    • Strong written and oral communication skills; ideally you are conversational or fluent in Spanish or Creole

    • Familiarity with office productivity tools including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom

    The following is required:

    • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats

    • Ability to work in-person in the state office or at various locations around the state up to two days per week/month, especially during legislative session and in advance of key elections

    • Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause may provide accounts for staff members to use)

    • Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

    Additional information about this role:

    • This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations

In order to ensure greater equity and transparency as an organization, Common Cause sets salary ranges consistently based on job responsibilities, and we determine salary for each staff member based on relevant years of experience (you can read more about our approach to compensation here, including where we offer geographical adjustments).
