We are looking for a proactive, engaging, and technically adept IT Administrator to join our Finance & Administration team here at Common Cause. This is a crucial role supporting all teams across our organization to become more efficient and effective as we bring greater centralization to our IT operation.
In this role, you will provide IT support and security for our entire organization through managing a secure IT infrastructure; leading engaging technical trainings; and ensuring all staff have hardware, software and technical resources and knowledge they need to do their work effectively and safely. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong technical skills and a desire to teach others to be more effective with their tools, and an interest in protecting our democracy.
This is a full-time role reporting to the Director of Constituent Management Systems; this role is based in Washington, DC, with an expectation to come into our office at least two days per week. We hope our new IT Administrator will join us in November!
Responsibilities
Provide IT support and training for staff
· Provide support to resolve IT questions and issues faced by staff, either virtually or in-person
· Develop and execute a series of staff-wide trainings to increase staff members’ awareness and understanding of key technical, IT, software, and hardware skills, planning for teammates with different levels of technical knowledge
· Train staff to identify and avoid security risks
· Create and manage a resource center of training materials for staff to access at any time to support their understanding of our IT products
· Write technical support documentation for network systems and applications
Manage our Microsoft platform and other software subscriptions
· Manage all Microsoft 365 license subscriptions for Common Cause
· Create and manage all Microsoft groups and permissions for Common Cause staff
· Manage all distributions lists used by the organization
· Manage subscription inventory and provision and deprovision accounts for multiple different platforms used by the organization (Zoom, WordPress, Action Network, and more)
· Manage and maintain our DNS configurations
· Identify and eliminate security risks in our systems, including recommending, testing and implementing system and security upgrades
Manage Common Cause’s technology hardware inventory
· Order and ship new computers and other technology as needed
· Refurbish and reprovision all technology hardware as needed
· Manage computer and hardware inventory
· Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords
Collaborate on the development of IT Strategy
· Identify the organization's IT needs and analyze business requirements for systems
· Create and implement IT policies and standard processes
· Develop and manage automated workflows across the organization
· Collaborate in the creation and management of the IT Budget
· Other duties as assigned

The following is required:

  • Have provided technical IT support to staff
  • Have led technical trainings for staff members with wide range of technical fluency
  • Fluency with Microsoft Suite, including experience functioning in Admin Console
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IT security best practices
  • Familiarity with both PC and Mac operating systems, and ideally experience managing hardware inventory
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats
  • Ability to work in-person in our Washington, DC office at least two days per week
  • Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

  • This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations.
