We are looking for an adaptable and agile Digital Fundraising Manager to join our team – this is a cross functional opportunity for someone with strong fundraising skills to expand our digital presence and drive donations that will grow the impact and sustainability of one of the leading organizations that is fighting to protect voters’ rights, hold power accountable, and defend our democracy.
In this role you will work with our national and leadership teams to design and implement our digital fundraising strategy, run successful fundraising campaigns at scale, and create powerful written communications to compel donors and activists to engage in our work. With an important election on the horizon, this is a crucial time to join our team as we expand the impact of our work.
This role will report to the Digital Director, and as a remote role you can be located anywhere within the lower 48 United States. We hope our new Digital Fundraising Manager will start in July and encourage you to apply today!
Responsibilities
Program manage our digital fundraising operations
· Develop and implement a strategy to increase the long-term digital revenue for the organization in collaboration with the Digital Director and Development Department
· Collaborate with other members of the Digital Team within their areas of responsibility to optimize our website, SMS program, and state digital work to maximize fundraising opportunities
· Set and hit ambitious goals for revenue, donor conversion, and donor retention for our digital fundraising program
· In collaboration with the Development Team and the Digital Director, manage the monthly recurring donor budget, setting goals and strategy for acquisition & retention, and tracking progress towards those goals
· Maintain the process to manage our one-time and sustainer budgets
· Track the performance of individual appeals and our digital fundraising overall and regularly report to organizational stakeholders
· Experiment with paid acquisition of new activists, and develop an onboarding strategy to convert as many as possible into donors
· Plan and manage national fundraising campaigns, including an annual monthly donation drive and year-end fundraising
· Maintain our ActBlue and Action Network fundraising platforms and track trends in the digital fundraising space to ensure we are following best digital fundraising practices.
Write strong communications to reach fundraising goals
· Propose, draft, test, and send campaign-driven fundraising email appeals, SMS messages, and website copy that convert activists into donors and maximize revenue from existing donors
· Draft and send regular updates on our campaign work to online donors as part of our overall donor retention strategy, including a digital version of our membership newsletter
· Closely track Common Cause’s state and national work as well as the national news cycle in order to identify and make use of opportunities for digital fundraising
· Run frequent A-B tests of appeal content, layout, timing, and cross-channel coordination in order to optimize performance

  • Deep familiarity with office productivity tools including Microsoft Office, Slack, Zoom, and digital tools (for example: Action Network); and a willingness and excitement to learn new tools

The following is required:

  • Experience managing a digital fundraising strategy or program using email, preferably for campaigns or organizations that raise at least $1 million annually, and preferably also with other digital channels (SMS, social media, paid ads, etc.)
  • Experience with designing and implementing A/B tests
  • Able to rapidly respond to news breaks, with the ability to work weekends and evenings as needed
  • Ability to travel 2-3 times per year for conferences, and team and/or all staff retreats
  • Per our non-partisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party

We have a preference for candidates who also demonstrate:

  • Experience working in an organization with a federated structure or a membership base, or with a direct mail team
  • Zapier integration, CSS, and HTML coding skills
  • Familiarity with democracy reform and voting rights issues

  • This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations
