We are looking for an Outreach & Engagement Director to manage the operations of the Common Cause Georgia outreach and advocacy program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong collaboration and organizing skills who is excited to support the fight for a stronger democracy in Georgia.
Our Outreach & Engagement Director will create and implement organizing and advocacy plans for Common Cause Georgia campaigns, work to expand Common Cause Georgia’s partner network across the state, and manage our organizing staff. Additionally, this person will represent Common Cause in coalitions and support staff as they conduct research, policy analysis, and advocacy efforts.
This full-time role reports to the Executive Director and is located in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, with the expectation to travel in-state several times per week. We hope our Outreach & Engagement Director can join us in March!
Lead Common Cause Georgia Outreach and Engagement work
·Oversee the development and implementation of an outreach and engagement plan to engage existing Common Cause Georgia members, expand membership, and build support for Common Cause’s work and campaigns among the general public
· Manage the Common Cause Georgia outreach and engagement team, including: collaboratively setting goals, hiring new staff, coaching and developing them towards these goals and support their career progression and retention at Common Cause
· Lead work to expand grassroots network through strategic outreach and engagement with local or regional organizations
· Oversee Common Cause Georgia Election Protection work: identify strategic counties/elections; supervise short-term Election Protection organizers; oversee volunteer recruitment, training, and deployment; and collaborate with state and national partners
Build support for Common Cause Georgia’s issues and campaigns
· Build and participate in coalitions, and cultivate strong relationships with individual coalition partners, allies and other stakeholders
· Lobby elected officials, including members of the Georgia Legislature to support Common Cause Georgia positions on democracy-related legislation, rules, and/or policy
· Work with Common Cause Georgia staff to create and execute 501(c)(3)- and 501(c)(4)-compliant advocacy campaigns around Common Cause Georgia policy priorities
· Plan and implement direct outreach efforts that engage members and the public to build grassroots support for reforms
· Coordinate creative rapid response in-person events that drive awareness and media attention (for example: petition deliveries, rallies, stand-up news conferences, etc.)
· Oversee coordination of grassroots actions with coalition partners to advance campaigns including redistricting transparency, anti-disinformation, voting rights, ethics, and money and politics
· Develop and maintain strong relationships between Common Cause Georgia and local clerks, election officials, legislators, and other elected officials through regular outreach and engagement on voting and democracy related topics
· Collaborate in developing materials (factsheets, blogs, emails, graphics) to inform and educate our members and the public
· Represent Common Cause Georgia with external stakeholders, including: legislators, partners, legal counsel, funders, and others
Build, diversify, and engage Common Cause Georgia membership
· Plan and host voter engagement events, forums, trainings and workshops to engage our members and activists on issues such as legislative advocacy, campaign finance, elections reform, redistricting and other areas
· Assist in the expansion of our grassroots organizing network across the state through participating in convenings and coalitional calls with democracy partners
· Build and foster new and existing relationships with partners to ensure efficiency and consistency within community organizing strategies
· Support the coordination and development of policy initiatives
· Work with the Executive Director to support Common Cause Georgia fundraising efforts, including identifying funding opportunities, engaging funders, and collaborating with partners on joint initiatives

- Ability to manage multiple short and long-term projects simultaneously, and comfort with juggling multiple and shifting priorities
- An ability to compel action through both written and oral communication
- Openness to feedback and awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
- A desire to build and manage a team
- Knowledge of how to use office productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Slack, Zoom), and a willingness to learn new platforms; we have a preference for candidates who also have familiarity with advocacy management
The following is required:
- Working knowledge of current statewide and regional democracy issues and political landscape
- Experience with direct lobbying or in a leadership role in a political or issue-based campaign (for example: Regional Field Manager)
- Demonstrated understanding of the difference between 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations and campaigns
- Please note that our non-partisan policy means that Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected offer (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party
- Ability to travel at least once per week in-state, and out of state 4-6 times per year
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends, especially during legislative sessions and election season (October, November, and January through April)

- This position is classified as supervisory and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit
