Overview

The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) is the largest membership organization of asylum seekers in the United States, with over 650,000 members from 175 countries. By joining ASAP, members gain access to critical resources and become part of a collective effort to build a more welcoming United States.

The Role

ASAP seeks to sponsor law students and recent law school graduates for fellowships with Equal Justice Works (EJW), Justice Catalyst, and Skadden as well as other legal fellowship programs, for the 2025 fellowship cycle (with the fellowship anticipated to begin in Fall 2025 and continue for 1-2 years, depending on the program). This position would be situated in ASAP’s litigation and policy department. The fellow will likely work on a variety of matters, which may include, impact litigation, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) filings, Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) cases, comments on federal regulations, and policy research.

Applicants do not need to submit a project proposal with their application, but are welcome to share particular interests related to ASAP’s work as discussed below. ASAP will work collaboratively with selected candidates to develop a final fellowship proposal that reflects the priorities of ASAP’s membership.

Qualifications

• A J.D. degree at the time of starting the fellowship;
• Awaiting bar results or barred at the beginning of the fellowship;
• A developed race and equity lens that informs your work;
• Strong research, writing, and oral communication skills;
• Ability to think creatively, take initiative, and be flexible;
• Commitment to ASAP’s mission;
• 1 year + of experience working with immigrant communities as a law student or otherwise; and
• Fluency in Spanish is valued, but not required.

Location

Remote in any of the 50 U.S. states and D.C., excluding U.S. territories.

Note: ASAP is a 100% remote organization with no physical office locations. We are currently equipped to employ staff remotely throughout the 50 U.S. states and D.C. Unfortunately, we are not equipped to employ staff from U.S. territories or outside the United States.
